Overview of the Zurich Giesshübel train station

The station Zurich Giesshübel is a railway station on what is now Sihltallinie the Sihltal Zurich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU) in Zurich Wiedikon . According to the classification of the stopping points, it is the only “real” train station of the SZU. The area is the seat of the SZU and houses depots, workshops and sidings as well as a goods handling facility.

The SZU's Uetliberg line branches off at the station , but without a stop. In addition, a single-lane connection to the Zurich Wiedikon station of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) branches off; this has been running in the Manessetunnel since 1927 and mainly serves freight trains. Although the station and the connecting line belong to the SZU, the station is served by the SBB and SBB Cargo for freight traffic.

Since the radio devices commonly used in the driver's cabs of SBB locomotives are not compatible with the SZU equipment, train drivers on SBB locomotives need a mobile phone to communicate with the SZU. Regular guests at Giesshübel station have been the SBB Ae 6/6 locomotives for around 50 years .
