List of train stations in Switzerland |
The station Zurich Wollishofen is one of the thirteen SBB rail stations on the territory of the city Zurich and located in the same neighborhood Wollishofen .
history
The first Wollishofen train station was built in 1875, with the opening of the left bank of the Zürichseebahn of the Swiss Northeast Railway (NOB) from Zürich Hauptbahnhof via Thalwil , Pfäffikon SZ and Ziegelbrücke to Näfels .
The Seebahn became the Gotthardbahn feeder with the breakthrough of Zimmerberg in 1897 , and on this occasion Wollishofen received its second station building, which is still there today. However, the building was not a new building, but the first train station in Zug , built between 1863 and 1864 by architect Jakob Friedrich Wanner . With the construction of the Gotthard Railway, Zug received a new wedge station and the NOB moved the original structure to Wollishofen.
The increasing volume of traffic at the beginning of the 20th century forced the SBB to relocate the Seebahn in the area of the city of Zurich. The Seebahn was lowered and electrified between the apron of the main train station and Wollishofen. While Wiedikon and Enge received new train stations, only the track system in Wollishofen was adapted. The double-lane Seebahn reaches Wollishofen station from Enge through the new Enge tunnel (903 m) and a generously cleared cut where the old route is reached. South of the station, the double lane has run unchanged to Kilchberg since it opened.

Track system
The station has six tracks in the platform area. The Seebahn double lane forms tracks 3 and 4, which have a shared 300-meter-long central platform that has been increased over a length of 200 meters to today's standard height of 55 cm. To the west of the track system is the reception building and the last remaining goods shed. Track 1, which is hardly used any more and which is laid as a street track in the house platform, runs past these; at the house platform is platform 2 which is no longer used for passenger traffic. Track 5, which is designed as a through-going track, runs east of the main line, and finally track 6, which has a relatively new 200-meter-long side platform, where a reserve train is usually parked during the day.
Despite being dismantled, the track system still has the shunting and maneuvering tracks required for freight traffic, and there are also stabling and connecting tracks. The fact that the facility survived into the 21st century is attributable not only to the local trade but also to the fact that the Wiedikon and Enge train stations can no longer be used for freight traffic since the lowering of the Seebahn. However, local freight traffic is also falling sharply here, and a first noticeable change can be observed east of the train station, where there is now a gas station between Seestrasse and the narrow platform on platform 6.
Siding
To the north of the station, a siding branches off to the east from the SBB line and crosses Mythenquai. This track leads to the shipyard of the Zürichsee-Schiffahrtsgesellschaft as well as to the concrete works and gravel transshipment point Wollishofen of KIBAG . Another siding leads west to Bahnhofplatz.
Restaurant in Wollishofen train station
The station building in Wollishofen was completely renovated at the beginning of 2007, but is no longer used by the SBB in its original function as a reception building. Instead, a restaurant and bar were set up and leased in the building.
