The station Zurich Selnau ( 424 m above sea level. M. ) is a station on the Sihltal-Zurich-Uetliberg railway between the quarters City and Werd the Swiss city of Zurich . The station has been located in the SZU tunnel under the Sihl since 1990 .
history
The old Selnau station was put into operation in 1875 as an above-ground terminus station together with the Selnau– Uetliberg line of the then Uetlibergbahn . In 1892, the route followed Selnau- Sihlwald via Adliswil the Sihltalbahn .
The lack of a direct connection to Zurich main station has proven to be a major disadvantage over the decades. This led to the fact that in 1990, with the introduction of the Zurich S-Bahn and the Zurich Transport Association, the old above-ground terminus station was shut down and replaced by the newly built, underground through station with an extension to Zurich main station. It came to be a little further north, which enabled better connections to the city center.
old trainstation
The old station was built in 1875 as a “provisional” terminus for the Uetlibergbahn on the area of the municipal wood storage yard. The site was not acquired, but rented from the city via a lease. The terminus station originally comprised 3 operating tracks and the UeB depot system.
In connection with the opening of the Sihltalbahn and its introduction into this station, the station was rebuilt in 1892. It now comprised six operating tracks and the depot was moved to Zurich Giesshübel.
In 1897 a separate hydrant was built to collect water and in 1899 gas lighting was installed on the platform.
In 1916 the manual switches were replaced by a mechanical signal box, which was assembled from used parts of the signal box in Giesshübel. In 1921 the transfer table of the UeB was also removed.
In 1922, responsibility in the station changed in connection with the establishment of the rescue company for the Uetlibergbahn (BZUe). Now the SiTB staff was responsible for the train station, which was previously provided by the UeB. The toilet facility was also renewed. In 1929 the lighting of the signals and turnout lights was electrified.
In 1951 the track system was expanded and the BZUe got its own intermediate platform. The signal box was also renewed and replaced by an electrical Integra switch box.
In 1978 the platform roof of the Sihl valley was replaced.
The station was closed in 1990, the tracks dismantled and the area returned to the city. In the following years, a residential complex was built in its place. The station building, built in 1892, was demolished in 1990.
The Moods jazz club was opened in the former station buffet in 1992, and up until 2000 it held around 1,700 concerts with a total of 140,000 visitors.
Today's train station
In terms of railway technology, it is a simple stop with a central platform , which was built below the river bed of the Sihl. The southern staircase is opposite the former train station at the Stauffacherbrücke . The northern rise is surrounded by the water of the Sihl and leads to the Sihlbrücke between STAUFFACHER and Sihlporte .
