Alfred Schöne
Alfred Curt Immanuel Schöne (pseudonym A. Roland ) (born September 16, 1836 in Dresden , † January 8, 1918 in Kiel ) was a German classical philologist and literary historian .
Life
After studying classical philology in Leipzig , he initially worked as a grammar school teacher in Dresden for two years and then qualified as a professor at Leipzig University in 1864 . There he was appointed associate professor in 1867. During his studies in Leipzig in the winter of 1857/58 he became a member of the Leipzig University Choir of St. Pauli (now the German Choir ). In 1869 he accepted a call from the University of Erlangen as a full professor and full professor for classical philology and took up the position on June 18, 1870 with the inaugural lecture Analecta philologica historica . From 1871 he also received a substitute professorship for Ancient History , but left the University of Erlangen in 1874 on behalf of the Prussian Ministry of Education for scientific studies in Paris, interrupted from 1875 to 1877 by stays in Gotha and Italy . When he wanted to return to Germany in 1883, the Greifswald professor Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff was preferred for the available chair at the University of Göttingen . In 1884 Schöne became a librarian at the University Library in Göttingen and only received a professorship in Königsberg in 1887 . When he moved to Kiel in 1892 , Johannes Schmidt was his successor. Schöne worked in Kiel until he retired in 1902 .
Under the pseudonym A. Roland he wrote the novella The Blue Veil . He was Richard Schöne's brother . The royal Dutch officer Wolf Curt von Schierbrand was his uncle.
