Ludwig Heller (philologist)

Ludwig Heller (born March 19, 1775 (or 1776 ) in Ammerndorf , † August 28, 1826 in Munich on a vacation trip) was a German classical philologist .

Life

The son of a pastor who died early, he was raised by his brother, who was also a theologian. In 1793 he began studying theology in Erlangen . Through employment as private tutor from 1797 to 1806 in Vienna and Ansbach , he found pleasure in teaching and became a teacher at the grammar school in Ansbach in 1806 and professor at the grammar school in Nuremberg in 1808. In 1817 he accepted a call from the University of Erlangen as a full professor of philosophy and classical philology on the chair of classical philology, which had been vacant for two years, as the successor to Gottlieb Christoph Harleß . He died unexpectedly in Munich in 1826 on a vacation trip.
