Stephan Schröder (philologist)

Stephan Schröder (born July 19, 1962 in Cologne ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

He completed his studies in Classical Philology and Ancient History in Cologne in 1988 with a master's degree . With a thesis on Plutarch's font De Pythiae oraculis , he received his doctorate in 1989 and became an assistant, later senior assistant. During this time he was in 1995 with chronological studies on Greek comedy habilitation . He gave up his assistant in Cologne when he received a three-year Heisenberg grant from the German Research Foundation in 1997 , which was interrupted by a substitute professor at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . He then briefly was a private lecturer in Classical Philology at the University of Cologne until he was appointed to the University of Erlangen in 2001 . He was unscheduled initially from 1 October 2001. Professor and received on 27 December 2001 as a full professor and successor of Egert Pöhlmann the Department of Classical Philology ( Greek Studies ).

Schröder's research focuses on Greek prose from the imperial era , Greek choral poetry and Attic comedy . He is working on an edition of the Menander pieces ( Poetae Comici Graeci 6.1), together with Rudolf Kassel until his death in 2020.
