Egert Pöhlmann

Egert Pöhlmann (born June 19, 1933 in Nuremberg ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

After studying church music in Bayreuth , Pöhlmann studied classical philology and German at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München . With the dissertation Greek Music Fragments: A Path to Ancient Greek Music he received his doctorate in 1960. Then he was a teacher in Hof (Saale) until 1962 and until his habilitation in 1968 in Erlangen with a work on monuments of ancient Greek music , as an assistant at the seminar for classical philology. From February 7, 1968 he was a private lecturer in Erlangen, from 1970 university lecturer. In 1972 he became an adjunct professor, in 1974 a scientific councilor and professor. He accepted an offer from the University of Giessen to the chair in Greek as successor to Gerhard Müller , but returned to Erlangen in 1980 and was appointed to Chair I for Classical Philology, which he held until his retirement on September 30, 2001.

Pöhlmann held numerous offices and tasks at the University of Erlangen and in the Bavarian State Ministry. He was several times a member of university planning commissions, 1982–1984 Dean of the Philosophical Faculty II and 1984–1986 in the Senate of the university. In 2004 he received an honorary doctorate from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens .
