Gotthold Gundermann

Gotthold Erdmann Gundermann (born March 11, 1856 in Freienorla , † October 19, 1921 in Tübingen ) was a German classical philologist .

Gundermann studied at the University of Jena Classical Philology and was in 1880 with a thesis De July Frontini Strategematon libro qui fertur quarto doctorate . After that he worked as a teacher for some time.

In 1884 Gundermann was hired to work on the Corpus glossarium latinorum . To this end, he undertook study trips to many important university and other libraries in order to research the holdings of the manuscripts there. It was not until 1892, when he accepted a position at the University of Giessen , that he left the editorial team.

Gundermann had already completed his habilitation at the University of Jena in 1888 and in 1891 he was appointed associate professor. In 1893 he held his inaugural lecture in Gießen and stayed there until 1902. In that year he moved to the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and stayed there until his retirement in 1921.
