Carl Erfurdt

Carl Gottlob August Erfurdt , also Karl Gottlob August Erfurdt (born December 11, 1780 in Zörbig , † February 5, 1813 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German classical philologist .

Life

Erfurdt attended the Latin school of the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) . He began studying at the University of Wittenberg in 1796 and moved to the University of Leipzig in 1798 . In Leipzig he was one of the first members of the Greek Society initiated by Gottfried Hermann .

In 1801 he went to the grammar school in Merseburg as the third teacher and became vice rector there in 1807 . The Prussian Ministry of Spiritual, Educational and Medical Affairs appointed him on January 6, 1810 to the chair of ancient literature at the Albertus University in Königsberg . There he established the Philological Seminary in the same year. After three years in office, he succumbed to pleurisy .
