August Brinkmann

August Brinkmann (born August 29, 1863 in Braunschweig , † July 28, 1923 in Bonn ) was a German classical philologist .

Brinkmann studied classical philology in Leipzig , Heidelberg and Bonn . On August 15, 1888 he received his doctorate under Hermann Usener . In 1889 he became an assistant at the Philological Seminary in Bonn. On May 30, 1893, the habilitation took place . On March 14, 1896, he became an associate professor in Königsberg , and on June 25, 1900, he was appointed full professor. On October 1, 1902, he became a full professor of Classical Philology in Bonn, succeeding his teacher Usener. There he was also editor of the Rheinisches Museum für Philologie from 1905 to 1920 . Brinkmann was considered an excellent expert on the Greek language, but presented only a few larger writings.
