The Archduke Albrecht Railway (EAB; Polish: Kolej Arcyksięcia Albrechta ) was a railway company in Austria , whose routes were on the territory of today's Ukraine . It was named after the Austrian Archduke Albrecht von Österreich-Teschen .

history

The railway company was created in the course of the expansion of the railways in Galicia , in particular a railway from Lemberg was supposed to open up the route via Stryj to Stanislau and into the Carpathian Mountains to Hungary . The Lemberg – Stryj lines were planned, with the option of continuing to Munkács in Hungary, as well as a branch line from Stryj to Stanislau.

To obtain the concession, which was approved on October 22nd, 1871, a group including Prince Calixtus Poniński , Prince Adam Schein, Prince Jerome Schein, Dr. Tadeusz Rayski, Charles Hubicki and National Bank of Galicia ; this group founded on February 17, 1872 for this purpose a stock corporation called kkpriv. Archduke Albrecht-Bahn based on the statute officially approved on February 12, 1872.

After almost two years of construction, the Lemberg – Stryj railway line opened on October 16, 1873, and the Stryj – Stanislau railway line followed on January 1, 1875.

At the beginning of the year there were 16 locomotives, 34 passenger cars and 403 freight cars in the company's inventory, with the opening of the second line to Stanislau, 13 passenger cars and 103 freight cars were added.

On May 18, 1883, an operating contract was concluded with the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB), which came into force on January 1, 1884. From now on, the EAB actually belonged to the kkStB network.

Following the line to Stanislau, the local line Dolina – Wygoda was opened on July 8, 1883. The concession to operate the railway was granted on March 3, 1883. In addition to passenger transport, the short railway line was mainly used to transport wood to a large sawmill in Wyhoda .

Due to the deteriorating financial situation of the company, the railway was nationalized on January 1, 1892. Infrastructure and vehicles were henceforth part of the kkStB network.
