Lutz Käppel
Lutz Käppel (born August 7, 1960 in Dorsten ) is a German classical philologist .
life and work
Lutz Käppel studied classical philology and German at the universities of Tübingen and Oxford . In 1990 he received his doctorate in Tübingen with a dissertation on the Greek Paian . For his writing The Theater of Epidaurus. The basic mathematical idea of the overall design and its possible meaning (1989) he received the Bruno Snell Prize in 1991 . In 1992/93 he was a Junior Fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC , and received his habilitation in Tübingen in 1997. In 1999 he was appointed full professor of Classical Philology, especially Greek Studies , at the University of Kiel , where he has been active ever since.
Since 1999 Käppel has acted as specialist editor “Mythologie” in the lexicon project Der Neue Pauly . He is particularly known as an expert on ancient Greek theater, but his interests also apply to other areas, for example from Greek philosophy to Neoplatonism .
