Paian (song)
A Paian ( Greek Παιάν Nothelfer ), also Päan or Paion ( Παιών ) is a solemn chant that was sung in honor of the Greek god Apollon , especially to fight or to celebrate a victory. After a battle, however, it could also be initiated by the losers to appease the victors. It is also an epithet of Apollo. Later the paian is also sung in the healing cult of Asclepius .
