Life

Uwe Deeken, a grandson of the colonial politician Richard Deeken , attended the Christianeum in Hamburg , but dropped out of school after the eleventh grade without an Abitur. In February 1968, the Allee-Theater for Children founded by Deeken opened in Hamburg-Altona as the first private children's theater in the Federal Republic of Germany, which he has directed since then, often together with the director Eberhard Möbius , who then turned to the theater project Das Schiff . In 1977 he began working with his future wife, Barbara Hass , who also brought the Allee-Theater towards music theater.

The Hamburg Chamber Opera, also directed by Deeken, has also been using the Allee-Theater since 1997 .

In 2009 Deeken and Hass were awarded the Biermann-Ratjen Medal from the Hamburg Senate.
