Manfred Fock

Manfred Thorsten Fock (born March 24, 1943 in Kiel ) is a German pianist and music teacher .

Life

Manfred Fock received his first piano lessons from Marianne von Gynz-Rekowski, and he gave his first piano recital in Kiel in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he has performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra Kiel with Schumann's Piano Concerto. After studying musicology and philosophy at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , he began studying at the Hamburg University of Music with Robert Henry, later with Eliza Hansen , whose assistant he later became, as a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation . In 1971 he graduated with honors. Master classes with Wilhelm Kempff in Positano , Nikita Magaloff in Geneva and with Sascha Gorodnitzki in Philadelphia.

On his debut in London , the maturity of his playing was praised by the Daily Telegraph , and the Irish Times in Dublin even named him one of the best German pianists. Fock won several prizes in international competitions. In 1976 he played all of Beetvoven's piano sonatas on six evenings in Kiel Castle, then twice in Lübeck .

From 1971 to 1973 Fock was a lecturer at the State University of Music in Hamburg , then at the Lübeck University of Music , where he became honorary professor in 1980 and professor in 1985.

In addition to his official duties as a university lecturer, Manfred Fock took care of the musical education of children and was a juror at the Steinway competition and numerous international competitions.

Numerous concert and teaching trips have taken him to Japan , China and Singapore . The "Oriental Piano School" in Shanghai awarded him the title of visiting professor. He also gave courses at the Shanghai Conservatory, the China Conservatory in Beijing and the Academy of Fine Arts in Hong Kong . He is a regular guest at the Nafa Conservatory in Singapore. After retiring from the Lübeck University of Music in 2008, Fock devoted himself increasingly to work in Asia.

Fock has made CD recordings with works by Beethoven and Schumann, as well as chamber music with Zakhar Bron (violin) and Karl-Heinz Pinhammer (vocals).
