Graz authors' meeting of authors
The Grazer Autorenversammlung (GAV) , with more than 700 members of Austria's largest association of writers within the umbrella organization IGÖA ( interest group of Austrian authors authors ). It was founded as a Graz authors' meeting in 1973 by, among others, Ernst Jandl , Friederike Mayröcker , Alfred Kolleritsch , Helmut Eisendle and Waltraud Seidlhofer in Graz as an alternative to the Austrian PEN Club . In 1975 the association moved its headquarters to Vienna . The GAV office is currently located in the Robert Musil memorial room at Rasumofskygasse 20 in 1030 Vienna. In 2007 it was officially renamed the Graz Authors' Assembly.
The association is active in the field of organization of literary events as well as cultural-political. As before, membership in the GAV is incompatible with membership in the Austrian PEN. This is based on the one hand on historical differences, on the other hand on significantly different political positions and, last but not least, on different admission policies. While the PEN requires two book publications for the admission of a new member, the GAV sets up a jury that decides on the admission mainly on the basis of existing texts.
In principle, every member can be active in the organization. The events range from graffiti (organized by Thomas Northoff ) to the “Day of Freedom of the Word” (the anniversary of the book burning on May 10th) to the annual poetry reading “Poetry in March”. Reflecting on the conditions in psychiatry and prisons, or the concept of normality, are also among the areas of activity of the GAV. There were literary workshops with prisoners early on, occasionally and repeatedly events in prisons.
The elected board members in 2019 are: Ilse Kilic (President), Christine Haidegger (Vice President), Patricia Brooks (Vice President), Martin G. Wanko (Vice President), jopa jotakin (Management), Nikolaus Scheibner (Treasurer), Magdalena Knapp- Menzel (Treasurer), Ruth Aspöck , Manfred Chobot , Christa Nebenführ , Jörg Piringer, Doron Rabinovici , Erika Kronabitter as well as one regional delegate for each federal state and South Tyrol ( Patricia Brooks , Christine Haidegger, Karin Ivancsics , Erika Kronabitter, Dominika Meindl, Sepp Mall , Bernd Schuchter , Josef K.
