Helmut Eisendle (born January 12, 1939 in Graz , † September 20, 2003 in Vienna ) was an Austrian writer and psychologist .

Helmut Eisendle was the son of a senior official. After primary and secondary school , he completed an apprenticeship as a telephone mechanic from 1954 to 1958 . He then worked in this profession and pulled simultaneously on a night school , the Matura after. From 1965 to 1970 he studied psychology , philosophy and biology at the University of Graz , in addition he worked as a workshop teacher at the higher technical institute in Graz. In 1970 he received his doctorate in philosophy with a major in psychology .

Eisendle initially worked as a psychologist in a free group practice for educational counseling and behavior modification in Graz, then as a representative for the pharmaceutical company Hoffmann LaRoche . He worked for the literary magazine " Manuskripte " and from 1972 freelance writer . As such he lived in Barcelona and Berlin , from 1977 in Munich , from 1979 in Friuli and Trieste , from 1981 in southern Styria , then in Vienna, Amsterdam , Berlin and finally in Vienna from 1993. There he died of esophageal cancer in 2003 . His honorary grave is located in Vienna in the urn grove of the Simmering fire hall (Department 1, Ring 3, Group 8, Grave No. 79).

Helmut Eisendle was, on the one hand, a representative of the language-skeptical and language-critical currents in modern Austrian literature ; In addition, in his prose works , essays and radio plays , he devoted a lot of space to his specialist field, psychology and its criticism. Formally, his novels and stories were often interspersed with theoretical discussions and were more of an essayistic character.

Helmut Eisendle was a member of the Graz authors' meeting . He was buried in the cemetery of the Simmering fire hall in Vienna. His grave is one of the honorary dedicated or honorary custody grave sites of the City of Vienna.
