Michael Rohrwasser

Michael Rohrwasser (born September 29, 1949 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German literary scholar and critic . He is Professor of Modern German Literature at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Vienna .

Life

After graduating from high school and completing military service , Michael Rohrwasser studied German and political science from 1970 to 1975 at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . In 1979 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . From 1980 to 1983 he worked as a teacher and then became a research assistant or assistant at the Free University of Berlin . In 1989 he completed his habilitation and became a visiting professor at the University of Hamburg and Stanford University in California. In 1991 guest professorships followed at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , Albert Ludwig University Freiburg, University of Vienna and University of Warsaw . From 1996 he taught at the University of Opole and became an adjunct professor at the Free University of Berlin. In 2000 he received visiting professorships at the University of Duisburg-Essen and was Kade-Distinguished Visiting Professor at Ohio State University . In 2005 he became Professor of Modern German Literature at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Vienna. He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
