Nicklas Bärkroth (born January 19, 1992 ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder , who made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2015 , is the youngest player ever to appear in the Allsvenskan after making his first division debut at the age of 15 years and 226 days .

Career

Youngest debutante in Allsvenskan and first experience abroad

Bärkroth started playing soccer at Balltorps FF in 1998 . Before the start of the 2007 season, he moved to the youth department of IFK Göteborg . In the summer he was appointed by Hans Lindbom , the coach of the Swedish U15 team, to the first games of his year in the national team and made his debut there on August 28th that year in the 1: 4 defeat against the Norwegian youth team. At the second meeting two days later, which ended in a 2-1 defeat, he scored his first goal in the shirt with the Swedish national colors.

When Jonas Wallerstedt and Pontus Wernbloom were absent in September 2007 , the coaching duo Jonas Olsson and Stefan Rehn decided to train the young talent with the first team, and he finally made his debut on September 2, 2007 in the game against IF Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan and at the side of To let George Mourad run into the attack. He replaced Peter Dahlqvist as the youngest player to date in the history of the league. His first game at Ullevi attracted attention outside of Sweden and in October England's top club Manchester United invited him to a trial session.

After his first division debut, Bärkroth was mainly used in the club's junior team and was only part of the first division squad from time to time. In the summer of 2008, however, the now 16-year-old hit the headlines again when he scored twice as a two-time scorer in his club's 4-0 win over SS Murata in the 2008/09 UEFA Champions League first qualifying round . In the 2009 season he had finally established himself in the squad of the first team and came to 22 league appearances over the course of the season, five of them in the starting lineup. With the club he won the runner- up behind AIK and reached the cup final. In the 2-0 defeat in the final against AIK, he was on the bench, but was not used.

In preparation for the 2010 season, Bärkroth tore a ligament. Shortly after the start of the season, he returned to the team and changed over the course of the season between starting line-up and bench. In early 2011, he became the team captain of the U-19 team, which he led at a tournament in Spain in February of that year. In the league, however, his start to the season was not as successful: Although regularly in action, he did not get beyond the reserve role on the offensive behind Stefan Selakovic , Tobias Hysén and Tobias Sana . In order to allow him more playing time, the club awarded him to the Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna in the Superettan in the summer of 2011 until the end of the year . There he was a regular player and scored six goals in eleven league games, with the club he finished sixth in the final standings.

Despite his personal success in the second division, IFK Göteborg awarded him again at the end of January 2012. He joined the Portuguese club União Leiria by the summer , whose league rival Benfica Lisbon also agreed a purchase option. By the end of the season he ran in ten games in the Primeira Liga , but the team rose from bottom of the table in the second division. He then returned to Sweden, but injured his knee in late August and was out for a long time.

Final breakthrough, national team debut and championship

In January 2013 Bärkroth left IFK Göteborg and in return for Ludwig Augustinsson switched to IF Brommapojkarna, where he signed a two-year contract. After hesitating between bench and starting line-up in his first year at his new club, he established himself as a regular player in the 2014 season. As a knocked-down bottom of the table, he missed relegation with the club, but had drawn attention to himself with ten assists. So he came in January 2015 under coach Erik Hamrén to his debut in the senior team, as these goals from Johan Mårtensson and Marcus Rohdén the Ivory Coast with 2: 0 defeated.

A few weeks earlier IFK Norrköping had announced the signing of Bärkroth, who signed a three-year contract with his new club. Under coach Janne Andersson , he and the team won the championship title at the end of the 2015 season, but due to injury, he was only able to play 18 of the 30 season games. In the following season he contributed with four goals this season and seven assists to reaching the third place in the table, which meant the return to the European Cup . This aroused the desires of other clubs, but a change within Sweden he rejected.

Change abroad

After another half series in Sweden, Bärkroth moved to Poland in the summer of 2017, where he signed a contract with Lech Posen until 2021.

Remarkable

Bärkroth's father Robert Bengtsson-Bärkroth was also a professional soccer player. He ran over 200 times in the Allsvenskan.
