George Mourad (born September 18, 1982 in Beirut ) is a Swedish former football player with Aramaic / Assyrian roots . He played two international matches for the Swedish national team in 2005 and played in 2011 - not eligible to play - for the Syrian national team in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup , which resulted in the country being excluded from the competition.

Career

Career start in Sweden

Mourad began his career in 2000 at Västra Frölunda IF , but was initially only used as a supplementary player. In his third year in professional football he was able to establish himself as a regular and moved to IFK Göteborg within Allsvenskan in winter 2003 . He was also one of the top performers at his new employer and played his way into the notebook of the Swedish national coach Lars Lagerbäck . On January 22, 2005, he made his debut on the occasion of an American tour in the 1-1 draw against South Korea and four days later played in the 0-0 draw against the Mexican selection, his second game in the jersey of the Swedish national team.

Change abroad

In January 2006, Mourad was at Brescia Calcio in the Italian Serie B on loan. Here, however, he was only used in six competitive games and the club from Lombardy did not make another commitment. Therefore, he returned to IFK in the Allsvenskan in the summer. In the winter break of the Ehrendivision season 2007/08 he took part in the training camp of the Dutch club Willem II Tilburg in Portugal, which is in the relegation battle in the Ehrendivision , from which he was signed. However, given the competition for Frank Demouge , Gerson Sheotahul and Sergio Zijler , he was only used irregularly at his new club.

In March 2010, Mourad left the club and returned to Northern Europe, where he signed a one-year contract with the Norwegian club Tromsø IL . Here he was at the side of Helge Haugen , Sigurd Rushfeldt , Marcus Sahlman and Ruben Jenssen and reached the European Cup as the club's top scorer with eight goals tied with Rushfeldt with the team as third in the table behind master Rosenborg BK and Vålerenga Oslo .

In January 2011, he joined the Portuguese club Portimonense SC just before the end of the transfer window . By the end of the season, however, he did not get beyond the status of a supplementary player. He played five league games there and scored one goal. Thus, he could not prevent the direct relegation of the promoted from the Primeira Liga . Nevertheless, he was in the focus of the Syrian association, which appointed him for the Syrian national team. He made his international debut for Syria on June 29, 2011, and scored his first goal in qualifying for the World Cup against Tajikistan on July 23, 2011. After a protest by Tajik officials, the original 4-0 win, as well as the 2-1 win - Success in the first leg, counted as a 3-0 defeat and the national team excluded from qualification, but the Syrian Association announced an objection.

In the meantime, Mourad had changed clubs again. He signed a contract with Mes Kerman in July 2011 , with whom he played in the Iranian Pro League . In March 2012 he left Mes Kerman again and joined Syrianska FC .
