Stiasny Library

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stiasny-Bücherei is an Austrian German-language monographic book series published by Stiasny Verlag in Graz and Vienna between 1956 and 1968. About 170 volumes appeared in a row. Part of this paperback series was published under the title Das Österreichische Wort . The series was inspired by the editor Viktor Suchy . Most of the texts come from representative Austrian writers. The writer Gerhard Fritsch worked as a magazine editor and publishing consultant at Müller and Stiasny and headed the Vienna office of Stiasny-Verlag and took care of the Stiasny library. Before the Stiasny library was founded, Rudolf Henz , Alfred Weikert and Hans Brunmair were part of the 'Triumvirate of Literature Promotion in Austria'.

The Stiasny library was financially largely dependent on subsidies from the Austrian Ministry of Education . Criminal proceedings for bribery against the responsible section head Alfred Weikert ended in March 1969 with the conviction of Weikert and the Stiasny publishing director Gerhard Zerling. The subsequent economic collapse of the Stiasny publishing house led to the suicide of the publishing director Zerling and his wife on July 31, 1969.
