Franz Hiesel

Franz Hiesel (born April 11, 1921 in Vienna , † November 2, 1996 in Oberpullendorf , Burgenland) was an Austrian radio play author , dramaturge and writer .

Life

After leaving high school, trained as a druggist. Soldier from 1940 to 1945. After being a prisoner of war in the United States and France, tram conductors and drivers. 1951 to 1960 librarian at the Wiener Städtische Libraries under director Dr. Rudolf Müller, who supported several young writers in this way.

1960 chief dramaturg at Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Hamburg and deputy head of the main radio play department; 1967/68 also its director.

1968 to 1976 in Munich freelance work as an author and dramaturge for the broadcasting corporations of the ARD .

1977 to 1983 head of the radio play and literature production department at the ORF regional studio in Vienna.

From 1983 to 1989, when he retired, he created an "International Radio Play Archive" with the ORF under the project title Repertoire 999 . A selection of the 999 best radio plays from a stock of 40,000 to 45,000 productions from twenty archives of ARD, Rundfunk der DDR , SRG and ORF. Publication in two volumes October 1989 by the ORF publishing house.

In addition to numerous radio plays, Hiesel wrote and published poems, stories, short prose and feature articles. He also wrote plays for the theater and scripts for television. His extensive estate was taken over in 2004 by the manuscript collection of the Vienna Library. In addition to his own texts, his archive also includes radio play manuscripts by Ingeborg Bachmann , Gerhard Fritsch and many other authors and their correspondence, as well as a collection of rare and in some cases believed to be lost sound recordings and a thematically relevant library.

Franz Hiesel has been honored with numerous prizes and awards, including: Austrian State Prize (1952, 1954); Radio Play Prize of the Bavarian Radio (1956); Radio Play Prize of the War Blind (1959), Grimme Prize (1965); Golden screen 1972, Prix ​​Italia (RAI Prize) 1980.
