Walter Davy (born December 20, 1924 in Vienna ; † September 14, 2003 there ) was an Austrian director and actor .

Life

After studying at the Max Reinhardt Seminar , Davy became an assistant director at the Burgtheater in Vienna in 1948 . From 1950 to 1955 he worked in occupied post-war Austria for the US-controlled radio station Rot-Weiß-Rot and as a producer for the “ Austria Wochenschau ”. Later he directed the Burgtheater and the Akademietheater as well as stages in Göttingen , Berlin , Heidelberg , Basel and Düsseldorf .

From 1968 he was chief director for television games at Austrian Broadcasting . In addition, he was also active as an author, including for the Sunday radio show " Der Watschenmann ". Walter Davy was most popular as the single-legged department head Paul Schremser in the television series Kottan . He directed the Austrian family series Familie Merian , as well as the series Die Emmingers .

In 1990 he returned to the Reinhardt Seminar as a lecturer. Even after his retirement in 1992, he often appeared in film and television and on theatrical stages.

Walter Davy's right leg had to be amputated during an emergency operation without anesthesia during World War II .

He was buried in Vienna in the Lainzer Friedhof (group 4, number 200).

From 1958 Davy was a member of the Lodge Lessing Zu den 3 Ringen , 1960 founding member of the Lodge Libertas , 1970 founding member of the Lodge Zu den 3 Lichtern and member of the research lodge Quatuor Coronati .
