Gabriel Barylli
Gabriel Barylli (born May 31, 1957 in Vienna ) is an Austrian writer , actor and director .
Life
Gabriel Barylli comes from a musical family. His father, the violinist Walter Barylli , was a long-time concertmaster and chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic , his mother Elsa a singer.
He completed an acting and directing training at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna and was engaged in 1979 at the Vienna Burgtheater . This was followed by engagements at the Berlin Schiller Theater , at the Salzburg Festival and at the Vienna Theater in der Josefstadt . In 1980 Barylli made his debut as a film actor in Der Schüler Gerber, directed by Wolfgang Glück .
His first novel Butterbrot (1988) sold over 200,000 times. Since the stage premiere in the same year, over 120 stages have played the piece, including in New York City and Rome. His play Honigmond was also frequently staged. Both plays were filmed for the cinema by Barylli as author, director and leading actor. Barylli received the Bavarian Film Award for the best dialogues for sandwiches .
Barylli was responsible for screenwriting and directing in television films or was active as an actor. In 2011 he was responsible for the direction, leading role and screenplay in the movie Baked Beans .
In 2012 the first part of the trilogy of longing - Paradise and the second part Beginning appeared . In 2013, Barylli published the novel A Father's Letter to His Son and the third part of the trilogy, Truth .
In 2014, Gabriel Barylli's play Showtime had its world premiere at the “Alten Schauspielhaus Stuttgart”. In 2014 the English version of Butterbrot premiered in New York under the title Chickenshit . 2015 saw the world premiere of the musical Cherubim in Villach, which he completed as a director and script. In the years that followed, his play Sommerabend was performed in Cologne, Essen, Düsseldorf and Munich, and the musical I was never shown in New York .
In 2019, Barylli's latest novel series, The Message from Heaven, started .
Barylli is married to actress Sylvia Leifheit for the fifth time .
