Rudolf Felmayer
Rudolf Felmayer (born December 24, 1897 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † January 27, 1970 there ) was an Austrian writer, poet and librarian.
Life
Initially, Felmayer worked in banking, but during the Second World War he was obliged to serve in the German armed forces . In 1945 he became a poetry consultant at the Vienna Radio Studio. In the same year he began working in the editorial department of the magazine " Plan ", which he held until the end of the magazine in 1948. In addition, he was an employee of the municipal libraries and speaker in the literary department of RAVAG (a predecessor organization of the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) , editor of the poetry anthologies “Door to door” (3 episodes, 1950, 1955, 1965) and the extensive series “New seal from Austria ”(165 volumes, 1953–1970) and the narrative anthology“ Ernstes Kleines Lesebuch ”(double volume, 1955). Felmayer sponsored the poets Ingeborg Bachmann (1948), Christine Busta (from 1948) and Rose Ausländer (1965).
Felmayer is buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 9). In 1974 the Felmayergasse in Vienna- Floridsdorf (21st district) was named after him.
