The parliamentary elections in Cape Verde in 2006 took place on January 22, 2006 . It was the fourth election since the introduction of the multiparty system in Cape Verde in 1990 .

Five parties ran for the 72 seats of the Cape Verdean Parliament , the African Party for Cape Verdean Independence , the Movement for Democracy , the Party of Democratic Renewal and the Social Democratic Party .

Result

The turnout was 54.2%.

After the PAICV achieved an absolute majority in this election, the candidate and incumbent since 2001 Pedro Pires was confirmed in the first ballot in the following presidential elections in February 2006 .
