Presidential elections in Cape Verde 2006

The presidential elections in Cape Verde 2006 took place on February 12, 2006 . It was the fourth election since the introduction of the multiparty system in Cape Verde in 1990.

The former President Pedro Pires and the former Prime Minister Carlos Veiga stood for election as representatives of the two largest parties in Cape Verdean, the African Party for Cape Verdean Independence (PAICV) and the Movement for Democracy (MpD) . The candidates were the same as in the 2001 presidential election .

Previously, in the parliamentary elections in January 2006, the PAICV had achieved an absolute majority of votes and mandates.

Result

The turnout was 53.1%.
