Geoland.at is the geodata portal of the Austrian states . It offers free, central access to important geographic information. Among other things, you have the option of displaying and printing geodata from all 9  federal states using the GEOLAND viewer, as well as searching for geographic objects and coordinates. The range of specialist data is constantly being expanded, and the map functionalities are constantly being further developed. Geoland.at is a spatial data infrastructure (GDI) with the aim of improving the use of public spatial data for administration, citizens, business, research and education.

review

The Austrian federal states have been operating geographic information systems (GIS) since around 1990 , and their use via the web has been possible from around 1997 . In October 2003, the regional office directors' conference commissioned a working group of representatives from all Austrian federal states to implement a geodata network. In July 2004 the first version of the GEOLAND Viewer was presented to the public. In 2005 the project was awarded the Office Manager Prize of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce , in 2006 the Administration Prize of the Federal Chancellery , and in 2007 the Federalism Prize. In the Austrian INSPIRE report Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (an initiative of integrated spatial information services to the EU) of 2010, Geoland.at is described as the most important example of an already implemented SDI implementation in Austria.

Concepts

Geoland.at

  • accelerates country coordination in the area of geoinformation - especially with regard to INSPIRE ,
  • provides the cross-country GEOLAND viewer,
  • implements the metadata network of the countries,
  • offers a free WMS service (WMS: Web Map Service ) and
  • enables a free coordinate transformation service.

9 countries - one service

The data storage concept of Geoland.at is decentralized. The data is kept on site in the individual state administrations and is therefore up-to-date and authentic. The merging across national borders is carried out by the portal software at the time of the user request. Geoland.at does not replace the country GIS, it is also not an additional GIS, it primarily enables a common view of the decentralized geodata.

The viewer includes the subject areas of basic data, spatial planning, administrative boundaries, nature conservation, water, disaster control, traffic, the environment, sport, forest and culture and history.

Since June 2010, a cross-border representation of the building land allocation categories has been available as part of the zoning plans.

Geoland and INSPIRE

In 2008, the State Office Directors' Conference in connection with the European Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE) stated: “The geodata network of the Austrian states geoland.at is to be further developed independently as a joint portal of the states and thus a significant part of the national implementation from INSPIRE. ”Geoland.at is intended to guarantee a coordinated and synergistic approach of the Austrian federal states in the implementation of INSPIRE.

basemap.at

Since 2014, Geoland - like the country GIS - has been implementing the basemap.at project, a general overview map of Austria based on open standards and published under the Open Government Data License (CC-BY 3.0 AT) of Cooperation OGD Austria. This map is a cooperation project of the nine Austrian countries (geoland.at), ITS Vienna Region (GIP.at, within the framework of the VOR ), the Vienna University of Technology and the Synergis company . In the context of GIP.at, an Austria-wide traffic graph, i.e. a digital map for the traffic network, is being developed.
