The town center has its origins in the middle of the 10th century with the construction of a St. Peter's Chapel. At the beginning of the 20th century, the community was formed from parts of what is now the neighboring community of Talamello. Until 1941 the municipality was still called Mercatino Marecchia . In 2009 the municipality came to the province of Rimini. It was previously part of the Province of Pesaro and Urbino . The reorganization is still controversial today.
traffic
From 1922 to 1960 there was a non-electrified narrow-gauge railway line from Rimini to Novafeltria. A bus connection has now taken its place.
