history
In Coriano you can find Umbrian, Etruscan and Roman settlement remains. The municipality was conquered by almost all armies that fought in Italy since the 12th century. Hence the city was conquered by the Malatesta , the Borgia , the Republic of Venice , the Spanish armies and the Pope's troops. Pope Clement VII handed the city over to the Sassatelli of Imola in 1528 as thanks for the military support against the Malatesta. In the centuries that followed, Coriano became an important agricultural area in the region south of Rimini and the most important city in the district, which is made up of six localities (Misano, Monte Colombo, Montescudo, Morciano, San Clemente and Coriano).
During the Second World War in September 1944, the city of Coriano was the scene of heavy fighting between units of the German Wehrmacht and the 8th British Army as part of the Allied offensive against the Goths , code name Operation Olive . The British war cemetery Coriano Ridge War Cemetery , where 1,940 fallen soldiers are buried, is a reminder of this.
The largest drug rehabilitation center in Europe, the Comunità San Patrignano , has been located in Coriano since 1978 .
