history

During the Second World War in September 1944, the site was the scene of fierce fighting between units of the German Wehrmacht and the 8th British Army as part of the Allied offensive on the Gothic position , code name Operation Olive . In the district of Traviri, the ruins of the local church commemorate these events as a memorial to peace. In the former rectory of the church there is a small museum that deals with the events of that time.

Montescudo was an independent municipality until 2015 and merged with the municipality of Monte Colombo to form the new municipality of Montescudo-Monte Colombo on January 1, 2016 . The districts Albereto, Santa Maria del Piano, Trarivi, Valliano and Vallecchio belonged to the municipality.
