During the Second World War in September 1944, the area around Monte Colombo was the scene of heavy fighting between units of the German Wehrmacht and the 8th British Army as part of the Allied offensive on the Goths position , code name Operation Olive .

Monte Colombo was an independent municipality until 2015 and merged with the municipality of Montescudo to form the new municipality of Montescudo-Monte Colombo on January 1, 2016 . The districts Croce, Osteria Nuova, San Savino and Taverna belonged to the municipality.
