Marcus Dahm

Marcus Dahm (born May 23, 1977 in Trier ) is a German church musician , composer and musicologist .

Life

Encouraged early on to compose by musicians like Yehudi Menuhin and Cyprien Katsaris , Dahm studied Catholic church music at the Catholic University of Church Music St. Gregorius in Aachen , where he passed the A-exam in 2007. His teachers were here a. a. Michael Hoppe , organ improvisation and music theory , Hans Schnieders , organ music game, Raymond Janssen , piano & orchestra conducting , Harald Jers , acoustics , Norbert Jers , musicology ,Marlies Buchmann , vocals , Matthias Kreuels , Gregorian chant & liturgy, and Steffen Schreyer , choir director .

With courses and a. with Eric Ericson , Anders Eby , Knut Nystedt (choir director), Gerd Zacher , Jean Guillou (organ, especially with regard to contemporary means of expression), Alfred Müller-Kranich (organ & improvisation), Ludger Lohmann , Sietze de Vries (organ & historical performance practice ), Carlo Hommel (organ & Gregorian chant), Hartmut Elbert , Axel Everaert (vocals) as well as Paweł Łukaszewski , Rihards Dubra , Enjott Schneider and Ēriks Ešenvalds (composition), he rounded off his training.

Dahm performs as a soloist, chamber musician and conductor at home and abroad. He works closely with artists such as Diane Pilcher , Vera Ilieva and Christine Gogolin , but also with Jens Förster , for whom he wrote numerous songs and chansons. He is interested in forgotten masters from all epochs, especially early music and romanticism , but also pays special attention to new music . Together with Vera Ilieva, he premiered various works by Heinz Heckmann in versions for mezzo-soprano and organ. His own compositions have been performed at home and abroad and recorded on phonograms and for radio. B. the Jubilate Deo for nine-part a cappella choir by the Swedish Radio (P2). Many large-scale choral works were created for the Konstanzer Münster , so u. A. for the Konradifest and the festive events for the 600th anniversary of the Konstanz Council . On the occasion of the 140th existence of the Basilikamusik St. Aposteln , he received additional commissions from the Episcopal Dommusik at Passau Cathedral , the Diocesan Cecilia Association of Cologne and the General Cecilia Association for Germany . In 2010, under the patronage of the Trier Cathedral Chapter, to which Hermesdorff belonged during his lifetime, he dedicated an exhibition on the 125th anniversary of his death to the important German choral researcher Michael Hermesdorff , whose life and work are being thoroughly researched by Dahm was. Accompanying this, Dahm reissued Hermesdorff's existing compositions for Trier Cathedral Music, a representative selection of which could be heard in church services and concerts during the exhibition in Trier Cathedral . Dahm is currently pursuing his research as part of a doctoral degree with Stefan Klöckner at the Folkwang University of the Arts .

Dahm has been working as a pastoral musician in Troisdorf since 2008 .
