Vera Ilieva

Vera Ilieva ( Bulgarian Вера Илиева ; born August 9, 1952 in Sofia , Bulgaria ; † October 25, 2018 there ) was a Bulgarian mezzo-soprano .

At the age of 13 she won the International Competition of Czech Television in Prague . After graduating from the music high school, she continued her vocal training at the State Music Academy with Mati Pinkas in Sofia. There she completed her studies as a qualified opera singer and vocal teacher. Her first engagement took her to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in East Berlin, followed by engagements in Rudolstadt , Gera and at the Halle Opera House . From 1981 to February 2018 the mezzo-soprano was engaged at the Stadttheater Trier . Numerous concert engagements have taken her to renowned venues at home and abroad such as u. A. to Tel Aviv .

Vera Ilieva has sung almost all of the major opera and operetta roles in her field and has received great acclaim with the two modern solo operas Miss Donnithornes Grille by Peter Maxwell Davies and La voix humaine by Francis Poulenc . Her special love was art song and church music , where she had an equally extensive repertoire. Her singing qualities are documented by radio recordings in Bulgaria and Great Britain as well as by various CD recordings. She sustainably promoted composers of contemporary music. In addition to her work as an opera and concert singer, Vera Ilieva was able to look back on more than 30 years of successful work as a vocal teacher at various conservatories such as A. looking back at the Conservatoire de musique de la Ville de Luxembourg , emerged with her own opera productions of her singing class and was also a member of the jury of prestigious competitions.

She died in the night of October 24-25, 2018 in Sofia, the city of her birth.
