Monika Ivkic
Monika Ivkic (born June 6, 1989 in Gradačac , Yugoslavia ) is an Austrian pop singer who became known through Starmania , Deutschland sucht den Superstar and the Serbian talent show Zvezde Granda .
Life
Ivkić was born in Gradačac and came to Vienna as a refugee from the Bosnian war . At the age of 17, Ivkic graduated from school and wanted to become a singer. Ivkic currently lives in Vienna with her brothers and parents.
At the age of 15, Ivkic took part in the German talent show Popstars . Since she did not meet the minimum age of 16 years, she could not deny the show to the end. A year later, Ivkic took part in the Austrian talent show Starmania , in which she finished 18th. Her popularity rose when she took part in Deutschland sucht den Superstar the following year and took fourth place. Ivkic took part in the Irish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, in which she took third place with the song Fashion Queen .
In February 2009 Ivkic brought out a book with the title Don't let the planks get charred - Tips and tricks for superstars (and everyone who wants to become one) .
At the end of 2010 Ivkic lost her recording contract with the Warner Music Group and in March 2011 received a contract with the independent label Permanent Vacation . The planned album Painful Dreams in February 2012 was postponed due to the high production costs. Ivkic changed the record label several times and was finally under contract with Permanent Vacation (single releases in Switzerland and Austria) and Polydor (singles in Germany & Bosnia and Herzegovina). Ivkic took part in the 2017/18 season of the Zvezde Granda music competition and reached 10th place in the final.
Ivkic has also been working as a journalist for an Austrian daily newspaper since 2011 .
