Thiant ( Flemish : Tiens ) is a French municipality with 2,917 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the municipality of La Porte du Hainaut , the arrondissement Valenciennes and is part of the canton Aulnoy-lez-Valenciennes (until 2015: canton Valenciennes-Sud ). The inhabitants are called Trithois (es) .

geography

The Écaillon and the Scheldt (French: Escaut) flow through the municipality . Thiant is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Prouvy in the north, Maing in the east, Monchaux-sur-Écaillon in the southeast, Haspres in the south and southwest, Douchy-les-Mines in the west and Haulchin in the west.
