Orléans county
The county of Orléans was a successor to the Merovingian Kingdom of Orleans . From 987 in the possession of Hugo Capets , it became part of the Domaine royal ( crown domain ) and was thus, along with the county of Étampes , the main possession of the French crown at this time.
From the 14th century , the county of Orléans was given to members of the royal family as the Duchy of Orléans .
