Joseph Friedrich August Alexander Felix Julius Andreas Alfred von Schoeler (born March 26, 1834 in Charlottenburg ; † April 3, 1915 in Blankenburg / Harz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

He was the son of the Prussian Rittmeister a. D. and postmaster in Schwedt Karl August Friedrich Alexander von Schoeler (1801–1857) and his wife Josephine Desireé, née d'Auger (1797–1834). The general of the infantry Friedrich von Schoeler (1772-1840) was his grandfather.

Military career

Schoeler attended the Moravian Institute in Neuwied and the Protestant city school in Koblenz . Then he was a cadet in Berlin and on April 26, 1851 was transferred as a second lieutenant to the 7th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army in Glogau . For further training he was assigned to the General War School in 1854/57 . Then Schoeler rose to regimental adjutant and at the end of May 1859 advanced to prime lieutenant . On the occasion of the Sardinian War he was commanded as an adjutant to the 9th Division during the mobilization . Following this, Schoeler acted as adjutant of the 7th Landwehr Regiment and the 7th Combined Infantry Regiment. On May 9, 1860, he was commanded as adjutant to the 19th Infantry Brigade and transferred to the 2nd Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment (No. 47) on July 1, 1860, leaving this command . As an adjutant, Schoeler joined the General Command of the V Army Corps in Posen on February 23, 1861 . With the promotion to captain , he became company commander in the 2nd Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 27 on October 25, 1862 . In this position, Schoeler took part in the battles at Münchengrätz and Königgrätz during the war against Austria in 1866 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, fourth class with swords.

On February 16, 1869, Schoeler was the oldest captain in the 4th Upper Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 63 and was appointed adjutant to the General Command of the IX. Army Corps commands. In this position he was transferred to the 8th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 57 on March 16, 1869 , and a major on October 28, 1869 as a regular staff officer . Schoeler married on April 15, 1863 in Jeroltschütz Magdalene Adelaide Bertha Countess of Monts de Mazin (1838-1924). The daughter Elisabeth Auguste Karoline Alexandra Josefine Magdalena (* 1864) and the son Friedrich August Josef (* 1868) emerged from the marriage.
