The Grenadier Regiment "King William I" (2nd West Prussian) No. 7 was an infantry joined the Prussian army .

history

The regiment was founded by cabinet order from August 23, 1797 to October 1, 1797 (Foundation Day) and at that time had locations in Bartenstein , Schippenbeil , Friedland , and Preussisch Eylau . With a brief interruption, the unit was subordinate to the 9th Infantry Brigade from 1820 to 1852 . Then she came into the network of the 18th Infantry Brigade . In 1855/59 she was subordinate to the 19th Infantry Brigade and was then reassigned to the 18th Infantry Brigade.

The uniforms were red with a yellow regimental number.

It took part in the battle at Christburg in 1807 and in the defense of Danzig against the First Empire and in 1812 in the battle of Olai against the Russian Empire . From 1813 to 1815, the regiment fought in several battles against the First Empire under Napoleon Bonaparte and then in Posen (1848), against the Austrian Empire in the German War (1866) and in the Franco-German War against the Second Empire .

First World War

On August 7, 1914, the regiment was integrated into the First World War under the 18th Infantry Brigade, the 9th Infantry Division and the 5th Army Corps in the 5th Army .

Whereabouts

After the Armistice of Compiègne , the regiment returned to the garrison in Liegnitz, where the association was demobilized on December 19, 1918 . The Volunteer Grenadier Regiment 7 ("Blücher") was formed from parts with two battalions and an MG and MW company. The Freikorps belonged to the Volunteer Corps "Silesia" and was initially deployed at Oels and from March 1919 in the Neisse border protection section . With the formation of the Provisional Reichswehr, the troops were incorporated into the Reichswehr Rifle Regiment 57.

The tradition took over in the Reichswehr by decree of the Chief of the Army Command General of the Infantry Hans von Seeckt from August 24, 1921 the 7th and 8th companies of the 8th (Prussian) Infantry Regiment stationed in Liegnitz .

Regiment chief

King Friedrich Wilhelm II. Appointed Lieutenant General and later Field Marshal Wilhelm René de l'Homme de Courbière as the first head of the regiment on September 12, 1797 . After his death, the then colonel and later German Emperor Wilhelm I received this high position on June 6, 1817.
