The Grenadier Regiment "King Friedrich III." (2nd Silesian) No. 11 was founded on November 21, 1808 and was from 1820 to 1850, from 1855 to 1866 and from 1871 to 1914 the VI. Army Corps subordinated. From 1851 and 1852 to 1854 it was part of the V Army Corps and from 1867 to 1869 of the IX. Army Corps . During this time it belonged to the 11th Division (1820–1850, 1855–1866, 1871–1914), the 10th Division (1851–1854), the 17th Division (1867) and the 18th Division (1869–1869) . It belonged to the 11th Infantry Brigade (1820-1850), the 10th Infantry Brigade (1851), the 20th Infantry Brigade (1852-1854), the 22nd Infantry Brigade (1855-1866, 1871-1914 ), the 33rd Infantry Brigade (1867) and the 36th Infantry Brigade (1868–1869).

King Friedrich Wilhelm III. 1808 ordered the establishment of the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment with the strength of two grenadier companies , two musketeer battalions and a light battalion of four companies each . The grenadiers were in the battalion with those of the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment . The construction was completed in 1809

In 1813 a third musketeer battalion and four reserve battalions were established. The third musketeer battalion and the first and second reserve battalions were later transferred to the 23rd regiment and the third and fourth reserve battalions were disbanded to replenish the regiment.

On October 14, 1814, both grenadier companies were transferred to the 1st Silesian Regiment, where they became the eleventh and twelfth companies. In 1859 the second company was given a heavy handover to regiment No. 132 . On April 1, 1887, the 10th company was transferred to regiment No. 138 .

On October 2, 1893, an IV. (Half) battalion was established and on April 1, 1897 the IV. Battalion was transferred to regiment No. 156 .

In 1812 the regiment fought in the Prussian campaign of 1812 , which was planned as flank protection for the Napoleonic Grande Armée on the way to Moscow . From 1813 to 1815 it was used in the Wars of Liberation , then in 1848 against revolutionaries of the German Revolution of 1848/1849 and in the street battles in Breslau . The regiment fought in the German War against the Austrian Empire in 1866 and in the Franco-German War in 1870/71 .

First World War

On August 2, 1914, the regiment was mobilized according to the mobilization plan . In addition to the back end of the field regiment it turned a reserve battalion to four companies and two recruits - depots on. On September 15, 1918, the regiment received its own mine thrower company, which was formed from parts of the mine thrower company No. 117 .
