The Fusilier Regiment "Steinmetz" (West Prussian) No. 37 was an infantry joined the Prussian army . It existed from 1818 to 1919 and was named after Field Marshal Karl Friedrich von Steinmetz from 1889 .

history

The association was established on January 26, 1818 (Foundation Day) as the 35th Infantry Regiment (3rd Reserve Regiment).

German war

During the war against Austria in 1866 the regiment took part in the fighting at Nachod , Skalitz , Schweinschädel and Königgrätz .

Franco-German War

In the war against France in 1870/71 the regiment fought near Weißenburg , Wörth , Stonne , Sedan and from September 19, 1870 to January 28, 1871 in the enclosure and siege of Paris .

From 1881 the regiment moved into the garrison in Krotoschin , from 1897 it was completely housed in four barracks.

First World War

During the First World War, the regiment fought on the Western Front , including the Battle of Verdun .

Whereabouts

After the end of the war , the regiment was demobilized from January 2 to 22, 1919 in Goldberg . The establishment of a volunteer company had already begun at the end of December. During the demobilization, the Volunteer Fusilier Regiment 37 formed with I. Battalion (Volunteer Battalion "von Ravenstein"), III. Battalion (Volunteer Battalion "Tschirnhaus"), IV. Battalion (Volunteer or Border Guard Battalion Lissa) and a volunteer MG and MW company. These formations were used under the 10th Infantry Division in the Lissa Border Guard . With the formation of the Provisional Reichswehr, the I. and III. Battalion in the 9th Reichswehr Rifle Regiment.

The tradition of the Fusilier Regiment "von Steinmetz" (West Prussian) No. 37 took over in the Reichswehr by decree of the Chief of the Army Command General of the Infantry Hans von Seeckt from August 24, 1921 the 14th Company of the 8th (Prussian) stationed in Lübben Infantry Regiment .

Regiment chief

In recognition of his many years of service proclaimed King William I the Infantry General Karl Friedrich von Steinmetz (1796-1877) to the regimental commander . After his death, the infantry general Viktor von Lignitz held this high position from January 20, 1903 to October 15, 1913.
