Friedrich Krieß

Friedrich Krieß (born May 19, 1796 in Graudenz , † October 29, 1872 in Naumburg (Saale) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Friedrich was the son of the Prussian Prime Lieutenant Jakob Krieß († 1823) and his wife, a born Roman.

Military career

At the beginning of the Wars of Liberation, on March 19, 1813, Krieß joined the reserve battalion of the Silesian Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . In 1814 he became a non-commissioned officer and took part in the siege of Glogau .

After the war he was transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment in 1816 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by the end of April 1819 . In 1826, Krieß became adjutant of the 2nd Battalion. In 1829 he was promoted to government adjutant and in this position was first lieutenant in mid-July 1832. From March 20, 1835 to March 29, 1839 he was adjutant of the 15th Infantry Brigade . He was then transferred to the 28th Infantry Regiment as captain and company commander . In addition, from mid-December 1844, Krieß was also director of the division school of the 15th division and president of the examination commission for portepeef ensigns . On March 31, 1846 he was promoted to major and transferred to the 25th Landwehr Regiment as commander of the 2nd battalion. From June 15, 1850, he was employed as a battalion commander in the 34th Infantry Regiment and on March 22, 1853, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel .

On July 13, 1854, Krieß became a colonel and commander of the 37th Infantry Regiment . On October 29, 1857 he was placed in command of Saarlouis and à la suite of his previous regiment. In this position he was awarded the character of major general on May 31, 1859 . The patent for his rank was awarded to Krieß on May 3, 1860, and at the same time he was transferred to Breslau as commandant . On March 19, 1863 King Wilhelm I awarded him the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. Two months later, on May 19, 1863, he was retired as lieutenant general with a pension and put up for disposal on November 28, 1863 with a pension . He died on October 29, 1872 in Naumburg (Saale).

He married on July 31, 1823 in Bornhagen in Eichsfeld Luise Freiin von Hanstein (1796–1868), widow of Ernst von Stutterheim . She was a daughter of Adam Erdmann Siegfried Friedrich von Hanstein (1747-1820) and Maria Johanna Leogoldine von Stein (* 1760). The couple had five sons and five daughters, including:
