Ernst von Redern (born August 9, 1835 in Wansdorf , † June 20, 1900 in Charlottenburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

family

He came from the Brandenburg nobility family von Redern and was the fifth child of the Prussian major Karl von Redern (born September 1, 1784 - March 24, 1858) and his wife Charlotte Guretzky, born von Kornitz (January 16, 1793; † 21 August 1835). Lieutenant General Hermann von Redern was his brother.

He married Anna Unzelmann von Fransecky in Berlin in 1859 . Their son Erich von Redern (1861-1937) also became lieutenant general.

Career

Redern joined the Guard Reserve Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on May 1, 1855 as a Second Lieutenant . From June to August 1859 he served in the mobile 2nd Battalion (Breslau) of the 3rd Guards Landwehr Regiment. On November 12, 1861 he was promoted to prime lieutenant . In the German-Danish War of 1864 he was a company commander in the III. Battalion of the 2nd Guard Landwehr Regiment. In the German War he took part in the battles of Soor , Könighof and Königgrätz and received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords. His promotion to captain and company commander took place on October 30, 1866. From July 20, 1870 to March 23, 1871 Redern was company commander with the mobile III. Battalion (Cottbus) of the 2nd Guard Landwehr Regiment.

In the war against France in 1870/71 Redern took part in the sieges of Strasbourg , Paris and Mont Valérien and received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. In June 1875 he was the surplus major , in August of the same year the oldest captain and finally switched to the 4th Guards Grenadier Regiment as a staff officer . From July 28, 1877, he was the leader of the Fusilier Battalion, advanced to lieutenant colonel on September 16, 1881, and rose to become a regular staff officer in mid-November 1883. He was then commissioned on May 13, 1886, initially to lead the Westphalian Fusilier Regiment No. 37 and on May 15, 1886, Redern was appointed regiment commander and promoted to colonel . On May 22, 1889 Redern was promoted to major general and commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade . The following year, on March 24th, he became commander of the 70th Infantry Brigade . On June 9, 1891 Rederns was transferred to the officers of the army and on June 20 of that year by awarding the character as a lieutenant general with board for disposition made.
