Erich von Redern

Erich Eduard Hugo Rudolf von Redern (born December 14, 1861 in Berlin , † January 18, 1937 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general in the First World War .

Life

Redern began his military career in 1880 as a second lieutenant in the 2nd Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 77 in Celle . In 1886 he moved to the Infantry Regiment "von Grolmann" (1. Posensches) No. 18 in Osterode , where in 1889 he became Premier Lieutenant . Redern then worked in the Great General Staff in Berlin from 1892 and was promoted to captain there in 1893 . This was followed in 1894 in the infantry regiment "Herzog von Holstein" (Holsteinisches) No. 85 in Rendsburg , in 1897 in the 33rd division in Metz , in 1899 in the 22nd division in Kassel and in the 38th division in Erfurt and in 1900 as a major in the I. Army Corps in Königsberg (each as a staff officer). From 1901 he worked again for three years in the General Staff, and then from 1904 to 1906 in the Schutztruppe in German South West Africa , where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. After another assignment in the General Staff as department head, he was transferred to the X Army Corps in Hanover in 1908 and promoted to colonel in 1909 . In 1911 he was appointed commander of the 9th Württemberg Infantry Regiment No. 127 in Ulm . With his promotion to major general in 1913, he was transferred to Brandenburg an der Havel , where he took over the 11th Infantry Brigade . Then in 1914 Redern became senior quartermaster in the General Staff.

During the First World War he was first chief of staff in the Deputy General Command of the XVII. Army Corps , took over the 80th Reserve Division as commander in 1915 and was promoted to lieutenant general on August 18, 1916. As such, he commanded the 82nd Reserve Division from December 20, 1916 to November 1, 1917 and then the General Command z. b. V. No. 59 .

family

His parents were Lieutenant General Ernst von Redern (1835–1900) and Anna Unzelmann von Fransecky (1836–1897). His first marriage was in 1886 with Ida Hostmann, and after divorce in 1906, he was married for a second time with Else Adelheid Sophia Kaempf (1877–1933), the daughter of the President of the Reichstag, Johannes Kaempf . He found his final resting place in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
