Johann August Wilhelm Lignitz (born March 3, 1793 in Aschersleben , † September 23, 1881 in Görlitz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He was the son of the chief bailiff in Aschersleben Andreas Lignitz and his wife Charlotte, née Brahtz.

Military career

Lignitz first attended the grammar school in Stettin and joined the Guard Regiment of the Prussian Army as a volunteer hunter in February 1813 shortly before the start of the wars of liberation . He was wounded in the battle of Großgörschen . Lignitz then fought near Bautzen and on June 3, 1813, was promoted to Second Lieutenant in the 1st West Prussian Grenadier Battalion. With this association he took part in the battles at Laon and Paris . With his promotion to Prime Lieutenant Lignitz came on June 14, 1815 in the 13th Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment. From there he was aggregated to the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 11 on May 15, 1816, and assigned to September 5, 1816. Here Lignitz rose to captain and company commander on September 14, 1829 . From March 30, 1836, he was employed in the 20th Infantry Regiment in Torgau and on March 30, 1838 he was promoted to major . Lignitz was briefly in command of the 3rd Combined Reserve Battalion before he was transferred to the regimental headquarters in 1841. From mid-September 1843 to mid-March 1845 he acted as director of the division school of the 7th Division and then became commander of the 2nd battalion in the 20th Landwehr Regiment in Treuenbrietzen . In this capacity, promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 10, 1848 , Lignitz worked briefly from February to September 1849 in the 23rd Infantry Regiment . On September 25, 1849 he was appointed commander of the 37th Infantry Regiment (5th Reserve Regiment) and promoted to colonel on January 18, 1851 . Under awarding of the character as a major general Lignitz received his on June 8, 1854 farewell with board . On 18 April 1857 he was finally with the statutory pension for disposition made.

On the occasion of the coronation of King Wilhelm I , Lignitz received the Order of the Red Eagle III on October 18, 1861 . with ribbons.

family

Lignitz had married Luise Wilhelmine Cäcilie Klugmann (1821-1842) on September 16, 1838 in Torgau. She was the daughter of the Prussian major of the artillery Ernst Klugmann. After the early death of his first wife, Lignitz married Charlotte Johanna Auguste Redlich (1831–1906) on November 4, 1845 in Treuenbrietzen. The marriages resulted in two sons and a daughter, including the later Prussian infantry general Viktor von Lignitz (1841–1913).
