Friedrich Wilhelm Ferdinand von Grabowski (born March 10, 1787 in Bromberg ; † November 10, 1861 in Bonn ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of the Wesel fortress .

Life

Ferdinand was the son of the war and domain council of Bromberg Johann Karl von Grabowski and his wife Ernstine Dorothea Elisabeth, née von Pirch .

Military career

Grabowski first visited the cadet house in Kulm and was employed on December 18, 1800 as a private corporal in the infantry regiment "von Borcke" of the Prussian army . There he became an ensign until November 1803 . During the Fourth Coalition War , he was captured in the Battle of Jena and was made inactive.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Grabowski was re-employed on January 20, 1808 as a second lieutenant of the infantry and ordered to serve in the Generalgouvernement in Pomerania . On December 16, 1812 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and aggregated to the 1st Pomeranian Infantry Regiment . On February 6, 1813, he became an adjutant to General von Borstell . During the Wars of Liberation Grabowski was wounded in the Battle of Dennewitz and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. On August 17, 1813 he was promoted to staff captain. He also fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Leipzig , Ligny and Belle Alliance and the battles near Dehliz , Hoyerswerda, Thießen, Hoogstraeten, Lier, Sweweghem and the sieges of Landrecies, Philippeville, Rocroy and Givet.

On February 5, 1815, Grabowski joined the II Army Corps as captain and adjutant . As early as October 2, 1815, he was promoted to major for his brave behavior at Ligny with a patent from October 13, 1815 and transferred as an adjutant to the mobile army corps in France. On December 10, 1816 he received the Order of St. George IV Class. After withdrawing from France , he was ordered to serve in the Kaiser Franz-Garde-Grenadier-Regiment on February 3, 1817 , and on June 18, 1817 he was assigned as a battalion commander . On October 11, 1823 Grabowski was appointed director of the division school of the 2nd Guard Division . In 1825 he was awarded the service cross . When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1829, he was appointed commander of the Guard Rifle Battalion and in this position Grabowski received the Order of St. Anna II. Class in the same year . On January 18, 1830 he was accepted into the Order of St. John and on November 8, 1830 he was transferred as a commander to the 37th Infantry Regiment (5th Reserve Regiment) . Grabowski worked in the same capacity from June 8, 1831 to March 29, 1838 in the 19th Infantry Regiment . There he was promoted to colonel on March 30, 1832 with a patent from April 8, 1832 . Grabowski was then transferred to Münster as commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade and on April 6, 1838, was aggregated into the 19th Infantry Regiment. His promotion to major general took place on March 30, 1839 with a patent from April 6, 1839. On March 25, 1841 he was appointed in command of the Wesel Fortress and on March 31, 1846 promoted to lieutenant general. On the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV awarded him the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves on November 30, 1850 . Grabowski took his leave on July 1, 1851 with the statutory pension . He died on November 10, 1861 in Bonn and was buried there.

Grabowski married Agnes Oelzen on June 4, 1832 in Weißenfels (* May 28, 1811, † February 22, 1896). The marriage remained childless.
