2nd Guard Division (German Empire)

The 2nd Guard Division , also known as the 2nd Guard Infantry Division for the duration of the mobile relationship , was a large unit of the Prussian Army .

history

The division was originally established as a grenadier brigade of four battalions during the Wars of Liberation on August 11, 1813 . On September 5, 1818, the brigade was expanded to form the 2nd Division of the Guards and Grenadier Corps, and on December 22, 1819, it was named 2nd Guards Division.

Franco-German War

During the Franco-Prussian War , the division fought in the battles near Gravelotte and Sedan and was part of the siege of Paris . Here it took part in the Battle of Le Bourget .

First World War

During the First World War , the large association was mainly used on the Western Front.
