The association was originally put together as Division Borries on January 9, 1915 on the Western Front and budgeted as the 15th Landwehr Division on July 13, 1915. She fought in the west until mid-March 1917 and was then transferred to the eastern front. After the armistice there , the division was involved in the fighting in support of Ukraine and did not return home until mid-March 1919 after the war ended.
