16th Division (German Empire)

The 16th Division , also known as the 16th Infantry Division for the duration of the mobile relationship , was a large unit of the Prussian Army .

history

The large association was originally formed on November 5, 1816 as a troop brigade in Koblenz and formed into the 16th division on December 14, 1818.

Franco-German War

In the Franco-Prussian War 1870–71, the division fought in the Battle of Spichern , the Battle of Gravelotte and was part of the siege of Metz . After the fall of Metz, fighting continued in northern France at the Battle of the Hallue and then successfully besieged the fortress of Péronne .

First World War

During the First World War , the division was in action on the Western Front . In August 1918 she fought with the 18th Army near Dury and Villers-lès-Cagnicourt , withdrew from the Siegfried Line and was then assigned to the 6th Army . With this she withdrew to the Antwerp - Maas position. After the end of the war, they were returned home, where the division was demobilized in January 1919 and finally dissolved in May 1919.
