Karl Friedrich Franz Victor Count von Alten (born August 1, 1833 in Hanover ; † September 24, 1901 in Gainfarn ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry and governor of the Ulm Fortress .

Life

Karl was the son of Count Viktor von Alten (1800–1879) and his wife Hermine, born von Schminke (1806–1868). His mother was a daughter of the Minister of State von Schminke. His father was a Hanoverian Privy Councilor , a knight of the Order of St. John and a lord of Wilkenburg and Sundern.

Military career

Col. transported. As such, Alten was then commanded from April 16 to October 26, 1874 to lead the 2nd Guards Uhlan Regiment and then appointed commander of this regiment. On June 15, 1875, he was transferred as a commander to the Regiment of the Gardes du Corps , where he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1876 . For a short time, Alten was the commander of the 1st Guard Cavalry Brigade from March 22 to September 12, 1882 . He then became major general and general à la suite of the emperor and king. Alten married Karoline Groeninx van Zoelen van Ridderkerk (1840–1911) on April 10, 1862 in The Hague . The marriage had three children:

Alten's sister was Luise, Duchess of Manchester and Devonshire . His brother-in-law was the Prussian general and head of the military cabinet Emil von Albedyll .
